The big one for my daughter with unusual for me yellow coloured border.

I'm very happy with this blanket because it is so colourful and bright, as well it was just an excellent mood enhancer while I was crocheting it.

Here and here you can see a few pictures about the progress.
I didn't have any pattern ideas when I've started, only thing I wanted was to start with a few granny squares joined in a rectangle.

So a quick description for those who want to create something like this blanket:

I started with two granny squares in 6 rounds each, then I joined them together

and made around them 9 granny stitch rounds.

I started making tiny granny squares in 3 rounds each and joined them around the blanket using join-as-you-go method (here and through). 30 little squares in total.

15 rounds of granny stitch around.

12 circle-in-a-squares in 6 rounds each. The pattern for these squares is the same which I've used for making Spring Granny Blanket. These squares attached on two short opposite edges of the blanket only.

21 rounds of granny stitch around whole blanket.

Using the same colour as for the border 1 round of sc, 3 sc in each corner.

I've used for it almost 1.4kg of acrylic yarn in 12 different bright and yummy shades of Stylecraft Special DK mostly. Ravelry project.

I think it is enough for today so the second finished blanket I'll leave for the next time :)

The Bargello Blanket is finished! The most of yarn colours are used up, so I have a beautiful soft and cozy baby blanket. Its size is 84cm square and it finished with a simple border in two sc rounds (Candy Floss + Sherbet). I was working the second round in back loops only. I have used 450g of yarn, it was Stylecraft Special DK, blend of acrylic and cotton(27%).
I enjoyed the process, it was easy to crochet this blanket and I'm very happy with the result! A big Thanks to Lena for the opportunity to create this miracle! The blanket likely will be added to my ETSY shop. Here you can see a last gallery of others Bargello.
Now I can continue to crochet a blanket for my oldest daughter, there is left to be done the border only.
I would choose white, but then I thought that Anastasia will choose her favourite pink colour. But my daughter's choice for the border colour is Citron!
So be it! :) Here is a little sneak peek of first border round.
The Snowflake Garland that you see at the last picture goes to Oksana within the Christmas Gift Exchange. Take a look at her blog Oksana+Hobbies, you will not be disappointed, Oksana is a big fashionista and a very creative person.

I'm taking part in Crochet-a-Long. We are crocheting a beautiful Bargello pattern (Ravelry link). Each Friday we have to add a link of the progress of our projects to designer's blog Step to Fly. And here you can see the link party after first week CAL was launched. Today I want to show you my progress. (My blanket on Ravelry) I love the result! Forgot to tell you, it will be a baby blanket. I hope there will be enough yarn in my stash to finish the blanket. As it is a stash buster project I don't want to buy more yarn for this. The yarn is Stylecraft Summer Breeze DK, it's a blend of cotton and acrylic fiber and it's such a soft and light yarn.
Sometimes in the morning is frost, so I took a nice picture of the nice November weather.

The colourful blanket for my oldest daughter is growing very fast during the last few weeks. Now I know the size which I want for this blanket, it should be 130*160cm so I have to crochet only 20 rounds approximately and then a border.

wip 1

I've used the block stitch (or mosaic stitch) pattern which I like very much, it's like a granny stitch but the crocheted item turning out more airy and flexible. The yarn is Noro Silk Garden Lite which I've bought a month ago. I spend 200 g of the yarn and I still have 100 g for crocheting something else, it might be mittens or a hat...

Also I was busy crocheting hats and headbands trying new patterns:
Just a short post to show you my new luxury yarn received yesterday. It's Noro Silk Garden Lite. I dreamed of some sort of Noro yarn for a long time. Now I'm a happy owner of six balls of it.

Of course I'll use this lovely yarn for crocheting something for me. It will be a cowl.

At the moment I frogged this rows and now I'm crocheting chain rows using plain black wool.
Another one thing that made me more happiest today is first issue received of Simply Crochet Magazine on which I subscribed for the first time. Hooray! Do you see a small present I got along with the magazine - pack of big wooden buttons!

Night-night... I'm going to enjoy reading my new magazine :)

One day I was enjoying the Pinterest crochet colourful world and my oldest daughter saw one so pretty blanket and asked me to crochet the same for her. I always happy to work with bright and yummy colours, so I picked the colours at the same second and started to crochet. So... I stole the colour palette... again...

I started with two granny squares(6 rounds each) joined together in a rectangle, then I was working with simple granny stitch and after 9 rounds made I decided to add one strip of small squares. A little note: I'm turning my work after each round made while crocheting granny stitch rounds.

Today I want to show you this blanket crocheted in traditional granny stitch but in diagonal way. It is easy to work and aah... so lovely result, isn't it? The colour inspiration came to me from this Ripple Blanket. Thanks Sher! ♡

For the main colour I took Dune (Big Value by King Cole). From the bottom left corner to the top right corner of the picture above the colours are: Turquoise, Apple, Sunshine, Candy, Matador, Plum. These all are Stylecraft Special, except of Robin for Apple and Patons FAB for Candy. All yarn are acrylic in DK weight. The hook I've crocheted with is 5mm. Last time I don't use the 4mm hook for that weight yarn. With a larger hook the blanket turns out more loose and airy. I like it! As well it's more quickly then with a smaller hook :)

Sometimes I'm knitting. So now it is time to knit lacy baktus scarf. I had one ball of variegated yarn and I've decided to make a one-ball-project. This yarn is so soft, I would never said that it is acrylic, but it is. Patons Smoothie DK and 3,5mm knitting needles. About the baktus scarf. It is a triangular scarf knitted in the garter stitch. It could be worn either for women and men, even for kids. I've started with 4 stitches and I make increasing by one stitch at the only one edge in every 8th row. I'm making increasing until I will spent a half of a ball of my yarn. I just weigh my ball time to time while I'm knitting untill I will see the half of the initial weight of the ball. So when I see it I'm starting to decrease one stitch in every 8th row on the same edge of the scarf where increasing was.
You can see all my baktus scarves I made before here.

Added a few hours later: I found a big mistake while I was knitting the scarf at the evening. I had to make increase(and then decrease as well) in every 4th row instead of 8th, as I said. After I've finished one of my most significant projects such as the Fairy Tale Tablecloth (see my last post) I

must continue to crochet one of my five WIPs. So now I'm working on a baby blanket in a block stitch pattern which I wanted to try a while ago. I love the pattern to work with. Also, the result is so nice - the blanket turns out soft and thinner, and more flexible than a simple granny stitch. The yarn is Magi-knit Baby DK by James C.Brett.

Oh my Goodness! This is not a tablecloth! It's something beautiful... wonderful... great... awesome... stunning... excellent... outstanding... overwhelming... I know... I know... I'm not very modest... But I soooooooo love the finished tablecloth which I made for my Mom who is living far away from me. I also want the same or similar item! But I'm not sure I would ever do something like that again... I was crocheting it since last August, it's almost a year. Here and here you have seen the progress. It took more than an hour to crochet last round, which length is approximately... I have to measure... Done! It's 5,7 metres in circumference.

Fringe... At the beginning I wasn't thinking about the fringe, but when I finished the border I thought that it would be better with this. So I hung 464 fringes(I can't believe) which weight was 245gr of yarn. For the each fringe I've cut 4 strands of the yarn, it's 735 metres in total.

:) I love statistics!

The total weight of the tablecloth is 745g.

The diameter is 170cm(140cm without of fringes).

Various Acrylic DK white yarn and a 4mm hook.

I would love to take a picture of the tablecloth covering the round table, but I have not this. So looking forward my Mom will take the picture, she has a round table surely.

Oh, I forgot the most important thing: this is not only tablecloth - it also can be worn a shawl! Yes! It looks great dressed on me! Isn't it?

I don't know where I had found the graphic chart, it was a while ago. I'm just posting these two pictures and I apologize if I'm violating someone's rights.

But in 7th round instead of 1 dc and picot, I worked (1 dc, picot, 1 dc) in ch-2-space of previous round. And the very last round I came up with a ch 5 and sc in between the group of (1dc, picot, 1 dc). And then the fringes very easy goes in ch 5 space!

I'm so glad I finished this project!

I've received a few questions about my last Circle in a Square Baby Blanket. So today I want to share with you the pattern.

American Terminology:
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
dc - double crochet
st - stitch, stitches
sc - single crochet

The Pattern:
Ch 4 join in ring with a sl st.

Round 1:: ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with a sl st in first dc (12 dc if you will count the initial ch 3 as a dc stitch). Turn piece – now your are working on the back side.

Round 2:: ch 3, dc in same space, 2 dc in each of next 11 stitches, join with a sl st in first dc (24 dc).

Round 3:: ch 3, [dc in next st, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st] - repeat 10 more times, dc in next st, dc in last stitch (from which comes the initial ch 3), ch 1, join with a sl st in first dc. That's it! Cut the yarn! The circle is ready! Don't forget to turn your piece, because the right side is the first round facing to you.

Round 4:: Let's turn our circle into a square! In this round we are working in ch 1 spaces only, so you have to join a new color in any chain 1 space. There are a few ways how to join a yarn. I prefer here the standing sc: make a slip knot and just work a sc in the desired space while holding the slip knot on your hook with your finger. Come about? Then make ch 2. So this sc and the ch 2 are made the initial dc stitch. Work 2 dc in same space, ch 1, **3 dc in next space, ch 1, (3 treble, ch 2, 3 tr) corner made in next space, ch1, 3 dc in next space, ch 1 - repeat from ** 2 more times, then 3 dc in next space, ch1, corner in next space, ch1 and join with a sl st in first dc (not in the initial stitch). Cut the yarn!

Ready! You got a lovely square with a cute small inner circle. Could you see the first round is the right side, the next two rounds - wrong side, and the last square-round is again the right side.

I hope everything is clear! I want to see your circles, your squares, I will be glad to see your variations on my Facebook.

Have a sunny week as we have now!

Yours Olga

I got a lot of questions about the method I've used to join the circles/squares for my last two Bright Baby Blankets.
So this is the Continuous Join-as-you-Go method. There you will find the video-tutorial of how to as well as a graphic chart showing the direction of joining. I was just happy to hear about this way. It's a happiness, really! :)
To be honest I learned this method from one blog in Russian, but then I lost it, so I started looking for it in the English.
I always used the simple Join-as-you-Go method before, cutting the yarn after each square/circle joined, then... you know the result - a lot of yarn tails to hide them (and hate them sometimes :)) This way is perfect to join different colored motives, but if you want to join all motives with the same color in the last row I always can recommend the Continuous Join-as-you-Go! You have to try!

...and a half of the finished blanket. The circles are just three rounds of double crochet stitches, but the second and third rounds are crocheted in the wrong side.
09/06/2013:: Edited to add a link to my pattern for the Circle in a Square.
Here is the squares for the second blanket. A traditional granny square, but I've turned my square after each round made. ↓

Joined with cream color... m-m-m... Again the same situation... the yarn was used up when the last row of squares was left to join them ↓

So... now I'm working on the same blanket but adult size. Stay tuned... I'll show you it's progress very soon...
Ch 4 join in ring with a slip stitch.

Round 1:: ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with a slst in first dc (not in top of ch 3), don't over tighten, then the slip stitch will be over the beginning ch 3 and it will look as lovely very first dc of round 1.

Rnd 2:: slst in space between the beginning ch 3 and following dc, ch 2, dc2tog in same space, ch 1, (dc3tog in space between the two following dc, ch 1) - 11 times, slst in top of beginning dc3tog, slst in first ch-1-space of the round.

Rnd 3:: ch 2, dc3tog in same space, ch 2, (dc4tog in following ch-1-space, ch 2) - 11 times, slst in top of beginning dc4tog. After you will finish this round you can notice that your coaster is a bit twisted up, as a small crochet bowl. Don't worry! After you made the last round the coaster will be perfect flat.

Rnd 4:: ch 1, sc in same space, (hdc, 3 dc, hdc) in following ch-2-space, **sc in top of dc4tog, (hdc, 3 dc, hdc) in following ch-2-space - 10 times in total from **, (hdc, 3 dc, hdc) in last ch-2-space, slst in first hdc(not in first sc).

Valentine's Day is coming soon and searching the web there is a lot of beautiful heart projects.

Of course I couldn't resist against the hearts and made a few heart buntings.

I found the Itty Bitty Crochet Heart Tutorial for the first bunting.

For the original pattern I've added two sc(US terms) rounds:

first is in the same color and the next is in white color.

I made these two rounds on back loops only.

My(actually not mine, it was presented to one nice lady) bunting contains 9 hearts in different colors of acrylic chunky yarn. I've used a 5,5 mm hook. The similar heart garland I made last year and I really really like it and therefore it adorns our fireplace almost all year with short breaks for Christmas and other holidays. But now our fireplace is empty because it waiting for a new triangle bunting which is finished and (in its turn) is waiting for the photoshoot. I hope I can handle with all that very very soon. :)

And now about another heart bunting.

The basic pattern is here. But I changed it a bit: in the 2nd round instead of each ch 1 which is between the 3-dc-clusters, I made dc(US terms) in the second dc of 3-dc-clusters of previous round.

Accordingly in the 3rd round the 12-treble-shells goes in these dc.

ch 10 to the next heart, etc.

Hello! For a long time I did not write here, but still continued to read your blogs and not ceasing I was crocheting crocheting crocheting different colorful things. Part of them was to custom orders, it is so nice to receive a little money for your favorite hobby, but... but... but... more I like to crochet for my home, my kids, my family and friends... And what about you? What you like to crochet more - for sale or for gifts?
We moved to a new house before Christmas, where our girls have one big bed for two. So I decided to finish a big blanket which I've started a year ago as a part of A Granny A Day CAL from this blog. I wasn't working with the blanket almost half a year because I was a little tired to make a squares each day and now I'm crocheting just granny stitch around, without of making granny squares. The blanket should be 180 cm width and it is almost done. Now I'm thinking about the border...
Today we have snowing and wind but I like this weather! It reminds me of the weather in Latvia, which I missed...

And I wish you to have a weather you like and a good mood,

always!

Till next time

The evenings will be even colder than now very soon, so it's time to think of something warm for our feet... Thinking about socks I don't want to knit but want to crochet them. I've never done this. So I decided to try it for me. But a pair of slippers, no socks. I chose DROPS Crochet Slippers. I took a pure Latvian wool yarn. May be you remember my only one experience in a hand dyeing yarn? I took this yarn and another in light pink color and was crocheting holding two strands of these yarn together with a 6mm hook. It came a nice color combination. Actually the slippers are ready a while ago. Well... my feet doesn't feel cold at the evenings while I'm crocheting something else.

Sitting in my new warm slippers on a couch I have crocheted a lot of different hats and scarves. I've started selling my work! I dreamed about it... So that's why I forgotten about my blog. Some news I'm writing on my Facebook or sharing photos at my Instagram. And now I'm dreaming about my own shop on Etsy or Dawanda.
In these dreams one day I found a lovely blog Repeat CrAfter Me, where Sarah shares with us her crochet, baking and other DIY ideas. And I found there a nice crochet pattern for the owl earflap hat. And I made 12 hats so far..... First of them of'course for my daughter(I'm writing about it here), and the rest of them I was doing to order... I can't believe... And I need to show you some of them....

I've worked with chunky yarn and a 5,5 mm hook or DK yarn holding two strands together.

Also I fell in love with the cowls! The granny stripes or granny squares...
The first I made with 7 granny squares in 6 rounds each + 1 round for the border on each side. (my WIP short post here)

The following two cowls are granny stripes, for which I began with ch 150 joining in a ring with DK yarn and a 5,5mm hook. Then 3 dc in each 3rd stitch around, join. Then in the each of the rounds 3dc in the space between of the each 3dc-clusters.
